Plasma Active is the user experience engine that allows OEMs to create innovative products based on an up-to-date platform within a growing ecosystem. It is the open and secure technology for a smarter user experience to run on future devices and platforms. A user experience engine is the core of Plasma Active and allows to implement custom user interfaces. It can run custom applications only or run a big variety of open source touch applications as well as integrate an app store. 

Custom User Experience: Tablet & More

For tablet use Plasma Active comes with an innovative tablet UX default implementation, which demonstrates its rich capabilities. The tablet UX is more than just an application launcher. Instead of showing the traditional grid of applications you see the Activities view showing your current project, task or idea. With Activities, you can collect all of the documents, people, web sites, media and widgets related to a topic in one place, building personalized and interactive views of your life.

Plasma Active is based on Qt, web and KDE technology, enabling efficient development of touchscreen user experiences. It integrates an HTML5 engine and APIs for webdriven applications. Plasma Active is fully open source and part of the KDE project. Plasma Active runs on proven Linux stack, including Linux Kernel, Qt/QML and KDE's Plasma Framework. It uses existing free Linux technology and brings it to a spectrum of devices. basysKom has chosen Mer©, MeeGo© and Balsam Professional© as reference platforms to showcase Plasma Active and a variety of hardware:
